Our History
Development Centers, Inc. was incorporated in 1983 as the result of
a merger between two long-standing agencies, Children's Orthogenic
Center and Phoenix Place. As such, we have a combined history of providing
behavioral health services to children and adults in Northwest Detroit
that extends back to the mid 1940's. At the time of the change in name,
DCI had a staff of 24 and served 700 consumers annually through it's
4 programs.
Over the next 20+ years as the number if individuals and families
requesting services increased and as the needs of our community changed,
DCI responded. Today we have a staff of over 125 and provide services
to over 3,000 consumers through 20 behavioral health and prevention
programs and 2 employment and training programs.
Having outgrown the building that we had been leasing since 1989,
DCI purchased three facilities. Renovation began in 2003 and was completed
18 months later. We are now pleased to be able to offer a more spacious
and attractive environment for our consumers to visit.
