Holcomb
School
Holcomb School is located on Detroit’s Northwest side. This program represents a unique interagency model of alternative treatment for severely emotionally impaired youth and for some less severe behaviorally and emotionally needy children and youth ages 6 to 11 years old. DCI services are designed to meet the needs of children requiring more intensive services than are normally offered through a Detroit Public School special education classroom or by a regular outpatient psychotherapy. This program is designed to meet unique needs of a severely emotional child who is able to function in a regular education school setting with intensive clinical support and is less restrictive than a day treatment setting. Each child receives individual and group psychotherapy on-site in the school setting provided by a Development Centers, Inc. mental health clinicians and group therapist. Child management, family therapy sessions, and case management services are offered as needed. In addition, adjunct services are offered through DCI if needed, such as psychiatric evaluation and consultation. This program is not intended to be a substitute for those other mandated special education programs that are provided by the Detroit Public Schools.
